FILOTIMO ULTRA MARATHON OF HONOUR

AN EPIC JOURNEY FOR AN EPIC CAUSE

Our Brand Ambassador, Temotio Jacopo, will be running 100KM in one day, from Morula Sun to Bryanston.  Timo will take on this challenge to fund the fight against Cancer.

​

The Machi Filotimo Cancer Project will host our Marathon of Honour proudly partnered by The Sunflower Fund.

On 28th November 2020 the Machi Filotimo Cancer Project will host the first Ultra Marathon of Honour to celebrate those amazing people who are affected by Cancer.  The 100KM run will be undertaken by our Brand Ambassador, Temotio Jacopo, known to us as Timo.  The run will begin 20KM outside Morula Sun Hotel and end at JSN BMW Bryanston.

This amazing feat of Strength and Endurance epitomizes the journey of a cancer sufferer.  Timo will take on this challenge to fund the fight against blood disorders and help save lives.  This Epic Journey is to raise awareness about becoming a blood stem cell donor and helping those in need of a stem cell Transplant a second chance at life!

Timo will be also be running for funds to assist our Filotimo Cancer Champion, Daniella Van Zyl, who has been diagnosed with Philadelphia Chromosome positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (Ph+ALL), a rare type of blood cancer which requires her to have a lifesaving Bone Marrow Transplant.  Given the severity of her condition, she was given 8 months to live.  You can view her Filotimo Champions page here www.filotimo.org.za/daniella-van-zyl

Together with our Partnered Institution, The Sunflower Fund partnered by DKMS, we will also be hosting a Virtual Event for this Marathon of Honour, to increase awareness and have as many inspiring sport fanatics and volunteers join in to run, walk, cycle or even swim for this amazing cause.

The Sunflower Fund partnered by DKMS is a donor recruitment centre and stem cell registry.  They fight blood diseases like leukaemia through the recruitment of stem cell donors and maintaining a registry of potential donors committed to helping anyone in need of a life-saving (bone marrow) stem cell transplant.

They fund raise to cover the cost of education and awareness about the need for and the process to become a blood stem cell donor as well as to cover the cost of the HLA tissue-typing test involved in the recruitment of donors.
