About the Event

THE HERO'S JOURNEY CONTINUES…. FILOTIMO ULTRA MARATHON OF HONOUR 2021

Based on the triumphant success of the first Ultra Marathon of Honour 2020, the Machi Filotimo Cancer Project will host our second Ultra Marathon of Honour on 29th May 2021, proudly partnered by DKMS AFRICA and BMW Bryanston.

Our Brand Ambassador, Temotio Jacopo, know to us as Timo, will be running 115KM in 12 hours, from Parys to Bryanston.  The run will begin just outside Parys and will end at BMW Bryanston. Timo will take on this challenge to fund the fight against Cancer.

This amazing feat of Strength and Endurance epitomizes the journey of a cancer sufferer.  Timo will take on this challenge to fund the fight against blood disorders and help change lives.  This Epic Journey is to also raise awareness about becoming a blood stem cell donor and helping those in need of a stem cell Transplant at a second chance at life.

Together with our Partnered Institution, DKMS AFRICA, we will also be hosting Virtual Events for this Ultra Marathon of Honour, to increase awareness and have as many inspiring sports fanatics and volunteers join in to run, walk, cycle or even swim for this amazing cause.

DKMS AFRICA is a donor recruitment centre and stem cell registry.  They fight blood diseases like Leukaemia through the recruitment of stem cell donors and maintaining a registry of potential donors committed to helping anyone in need of a life-saving (bone marrow) stem cell transplant.

By reaching our target, we will be in a position to assist the Machi Filotimo Cancer Project, a registered NPO and PBO organization, to continue to do the amazing work that they do, in the spirit of filotimo, by creating awareness, educating on the signs and symptoms that lead to cancer, its treatments options and providing palliative care to those in need, through our partnered institutions.

Every 27 seconds someone in the world is diagnosed with a blood disorder such as leukaemia, aplastic anaemia and sickle cell disease. Often, a blood stem cell transplant from a matching donor is their only hope of a cure.

Our aim is to reach far and wide and have a large number of donors recruited as stem cell donors so that we can help fight the fight against blood disorders and change lives.

The funds raised will be utilized for education, awareness, contributing towards our partnered institution, DKMS Africa, which fundraise to cover the cost of education and awareness about the need for and the process to become a blood stem cell donor as well as to cover the cost of the HLA tissue-typing test involved in the recruitment of donors, and to grow the Machi Filotimo Cancer Project nationally and internationally.

Help us to continue to do what we do... in the spirit of Filotimo!
