May is National Melanoma and Skin cancer Awareness Month. A black ribbon is used to signify melanoma and skin cancer.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in South Africa with about 20 000 reported cases every year and 700 deaths.

Skin cancer is largely preventable, and if caught early, it’s usually curable. Since most skin cancers are linked to sun exposure, it’s important to take precautions when spending time outdoors, no matter what time of year. Too much sun can increase your risk for skin cancer and lead to premature skin aging.

Practice Sun Safety:-

🖤Stay in the shade.

🖤Wear clothing that covers your arms and legs.

🖤Wear a hat with a wide brim to shade your face, head, ears, and neck.

🖤Wear sunglasses that wrap around and block both UVA and UVB rays.

🖤Use a broad spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher.
